AVOID THESE UNNECESSARY REPAIRS THROUGH RESPONSIBLE AC MAINTENANCE

Avoid These Unnecessary Repairs Through Responsible AC Maintenance

AC maintenance is more important than you know. Some people hope to cut back on expenses by skipping the regular maintenance of their AC unit. As long as the unit is still working properly, they do not feel the need to get in touch with a professional to conduct a regular check on their heating and cooling systems.
While it might save you from incurring expenses right now, it does not mean you will save money. In fact, you might end up spending more money in the long run.
The truth is, finding out that your AC unit needs repair can be very frustrating. This is especially true if it breaks down on you just when you need it the most – like in the middle of a cold winter night or a very hot summer afternoon. In particular, there are 2 specific repairs that you can totally eliminate if you are only responsible for AC maintenance.

Leaking water
Yes, your AC unit can be the cause of a water leak. Some people get surprised when they report leaking water and it turns out that it is not the plumbing but their AC unit. When you fail to notice this water leak it can result in more damage to that part of your house. It depends on where it is specifically located but a leaking AC unit can destroy an attic, your walls, or even your cabinets. That will not only force you to have the AC repaired, you will also spend on your house. Fortunately, this is a problem that you can avoid is you only conduct regular AC maintenance. This is not a difficult thing to spot when an AC technician looks over your unit during the routine maintenance visit. Part of the process includes cleaning the drain if it is clogged with debris. When this is not checked, the condensation is collected on the inside of the coil and that can lead to a water leak.

Frozen coil
When it is not checked regularly, the evaporator coil tends to freeze. While it may seem normal for an AC unit, we assure you that it is not. This should not happen because it will keep the refrigerant from doing its job – which is to move the heat outdoors and cool the coil of the AC unit. If this is not addressed, it will compromise the performance of the heating and cooling system. It will make it work harder than it has to and it could totally destroy the unit. A frozen coil is usually caused by a couple of things – low level of refrigerant, dirty air filter, damaged fan motor. All of these can be identified by the technician during the regular maintenance. So if you only have the maintenance as scheduled, the refrigerant can be refilled, the air filter cleaned, and the fan motor checked. The frozen coil does not have to happen in the first place.
Of course, another thing that regular AC maintenance can do is to delay the normal wear and tear of the unit. While this is not really something that you can totally eliminate, it will slow it down. It lengthens the lifespan of the unit and lowers the need to replace the parts. In the long run, that will save you a lot of money.
