QUICK TIPS FOR SAVING ENERGY WHILE REMAINING COOL THIS SUMMER

August 10, 2023 by hls_admin

Summer is here and homeowners are searching for not only relief from the hot and sticky temperatures, but also from skyrocketing energy bills. There may not be much we can do about the weather outside, but there are some adjustments we can make inside that can help keep our homes and our bank accounts cool.

A Fan Makes A Big Difference

If your home does not have ceiling fans, consider purchasing a couple for the main rooms of your house, or adding box fans for mobile relive. If you use fans to help keep your home cool, you will be able to raise the thermostat setting by at least 4 degrees without giving up comfort. This increase gives your air conditioner (AC) a break from being the only cooler of the home and it makes a difference on your monthly bills.

Block Out The Sun

On a hot and sunny day, closing the blinds and curtains can significantly reduce the indoor temperature in your home. If you can keep your indoor spaces from becoming to hot in the first place, your AC system will not have to work as hard to bring down the temperature of your home. Also check around your windows and doors to make sure you don’t feel any air flow as seals can wear out over time allowing hot air in and cool air to escape.

Pay Attention To The Thermostat

Setting your thermostat at 78 degrees will save you 10% on your energy bill, according to the Department of Energy. While that number may seem high for some people, the addition of fans to circulate air and use of blinds and curtains can make this temperature setting much more comfortable thant you may anticipate. For every degree that you raise your thermostat above 72 degrees, you can save 3% on your energy bill, so giving this a try is definitely worth the effort.

Making Sure Your AC Works Properly

It is crucial to your comfort and your energy bills that your AC unit is working properly. If your unit is having difficulty cooling your home, it may mean that there is a problem that needs attention. It is better to have a professional assess the system and determine if there are issues prior to it breaking down altogether as then you will be left with potentially bigger problems to have to solve. AC units can become overtasked and wear out over time, it is a good idea to have your unit checked annually to make sure it is is top condition.

Call The Professionals

Veteran Air is here to help you with all of your AC needs. Our professional technicians are experienced in determining your AC’s problems and correcting them before they cost you on your energy bill. Keep you home cool and your energy bills low by taking a few measures to ensure your AC system is working its best during the hottest months.
