EXTEND THE LIFE OF YOUR AC UNIT: HERE’S HOW

August 10, 2023 by hls_admin

How To Extend The Life Of Your AC Unit

Do you want to extend the life of your AC unit? Of course, you do! This is one of the most expensive parts of your home. Not only that, it plays an important role in keeping your house cozy. AC unit keeps your home warm during the cold season and cool when the weather is too hot outside.
While it may seem intimidating to extend the life of your HVAC system, it is not impossible. You are not expected to be as good as the technicians in the industry but you need to know how to take care of your heating and cooling system. It is the first step of ensuring that your unit will last for 15 to 20 years.
An AC unit can break down without warning. You do not want it to break down in the middle of a very cold night or a hot summer afternoon. It is best to make sure that before the weather reaches the usual highs and lows, your HVAC system will not break down on you.
One of the first things that you need to arrange is an annual tune-up of your unit. This involves a check-up of the unit to see if there are parts that require replacement. Sometimes, there are parts that can be repaired before it is replaced – but only if the damage is discovered early.
During the annual tune-up, some cleaning will also take place. The unit will also be checked for any faulty wirings that can start a fire. This could happen while you and your family are out of the house. You need to keep this from happening by making sure the unit is maintained.
This is actually very simple to arrange. You can simply call an HVAC service provider to help you out – like Veteran Air. We can arrange and schedule the regular tune-up of your AC unit around spring time so you do not have to worry about it. The regular maintenance can actually help you save up to 10% of your annual electric bill. A damaged, dirty or overheated unit will work harder that it has to and will consume more energy.
In between these tune-ups, there are a couple of things that you can do on your own that will help extend the life of your heating and cooling unit.

Clean or change the filter of the AC unit every few months. Make sure you follow the instructions from the manufacturer.
Remove the dust from the vent. This should be given a thorough cleaning during the annual tune-up but dusting it every now and then would help.
Make sure the condensing unit is not blocked by anything, This is the part that draws the air in so there should be nothing blocking it.
Keep debris like leaves and sticks from the outside unit.

You have to remember all of these tips so you can keep your AC unit in good working condition at all times. This will not only help you extend the life of your unit, it will also help you save on your energy bill.
