Here in Central Florida, we don’t really get the same
changing of the seasons that other states tend to get. Instead of winter
snowstorms and freezing rain, we’re more inclined to get cooler temperatures
and cloudy days. However, just because we’re fortunate to live in a warm and
comfortable climate year-round, that doesn’t mean that we’re not prone to our
own seasonal weather changes. As we enter the winter months, it’s more
important than ever to focus on air quality. After all, serious issues like pollen and mold
are an ongoing problem in the Sunshine State. To help keep your house feeling
nice and fresh this winter, here are four tips for significantly improving its air quality!
Tidy Up Regularly
Take a look around your house. Would you say that it’s nice
and neat? Even if your home appears to be free from clutter and messes, you may
be surprised to learn that it’s probably teeming with dust and soil. These
particles can affect the quality of air in your home, leading to allergies and
respiratory problems. By making sure you dust and vacuum frequently, you can
enjoy a much better breathing experience inside your house!
Keep Grime Outdoors
Every time you take a step inside your house, you’re
tracking in everything that was attached to your shoes while you were outdoors.
Even if you didn’t step in anything noticeably disgusting, you’re still
bringing in a bounty of soil, bacteria, and pollen. To help prevent you from
bringing this filth into your home, it’s a good idea to remove your shoes
completely upon entering your home.
Control Your Humidity
One of the worst things for your home’s air quality is
moisture. Florida has a serious black mold problem, and if you allow this
dangerous fungus to grow unchecked, it could put you and your family in harm’s
way. By investing in a dehumidifier, though, you can offset the amount of moisture
in your home. In turn, you’ll be able to dramatically reduce the growth of this
toxic mold and vastly improve the quality of air inside your house.
Change Your Air Filters
If you peeked inside your air filter right now, you might be
surprised by the layers of buildup and dust trapped inside it. Air filters work
hard to help keep the air inside your home pure and clean, but many people
don’t realize that they need to change
them at least every 90 days (or sooner, if needed). A dirty air filter is
an inefficient one, increasing your risk of breathing in nasty particulates
that could harm your lungs and expose you to infection.
