Donald Durrance β Electrical Trade Manager
Donald βDonnieβ Durrance brings more than four decades of experience in the electrical trade to his role as Electrical Trade Manager at Veteran Air. A lifelong resident of Manatee County, Donnie represents a deep connection to the community the company serves. His family roots in the region date back to the mid-1800s, giving him a strong sense of pride in the area and a genuine commitment to helping local homeowners keep their homes safe and functioning properly.
Donnieβs journey into the electrical field began in 1984 when he started as an apprentice for a small electrical contractor. From the beginning, he had the opportunity to learn from skilled, second-generation union-trained electricians who emphasized the importance of precision, craftsmanship, and pride in oneβs work. Those early years shaped his understanding of the trade and laid the foundation for a career built on quality and reliability.
The strong work ethic that defined Donnieβs career was instilled long before he entered the electrical field. Growing up, he often worked alongside his father at home, learning the value of responsibility and dedication through hands-on experience. After graduating from Southeast High School, Donnie spent several years working on a farm, an experience that not only strengthened his work ethic but also fostered a lifelong appreciation for the outdoors. Even today, he continues to enjoy raising cattle, a pursuit that reflects his connection to the land and the traditions of the community he calls home.
When Donnie transitioned from farm work into electrical work for a friendβs father, he discovered a career path that would shape the rest of his professional life. Over the next several decades, he built a reputation as a skilled electrician with a deep understanding of the trade. As a state-licensed master electrician, Donnie has worked across a wide range of electrical projects, developing extensive experience and technical knowledge along the way.
Much of Donnieβs early career was spent working in new construction, where he contributed to the development of homes and buildings throughout the region. His ability to approach projects with attention to detail and a commitment to doing things the right way helped him build long-standing relationships with colleagues and clients alike. However, in 2015, Donnie made the transition into service work, a change that allowed him to apply his skills in a more direct and personal way.
As a service electrician, Donnie discovered a new dimension of the trade that he found particularly rewarding. The role required a combination of technical expertise and strong problem-solving abilities, as each service call presented unique challenges. Just as importantly, it provided opportunities to help homeowners directly by diagnosing issues, explaining solutions, and ensuring that their electrical systems were safe and reliable.
Donnieβs ability to connect with customers and guide teams eventually led him into leadership. In 2021, he stepped into a service company management role, where he began overseeing teams of electricians while continuing to emphasize the values that had guided his careerβintegrity, craftsmanship, and taking care of people.
In 2025, Donnie joined Veteran Air, bringing his experience and leadership to the companyβs electrical department. His decision to join the team was influenced in part by the many people he already knew within the organization. Several friends and colleagues who had been part of the companyβs early days spoke highly of the culture and leadership at Veteran Air.
Another factor that resonated strongly with Donnie was the companyβs connection to the military. As the son of a Korean War veteran, he holds a deep respect for military service. Seeing that many of Veteran Airβs senior leaders are retired members of the armed forces reinforced his belief that the company shared the same values of discipline, integrity, and service.
Since joining Veteran Air, Donnie has found the environment to be even more supportive than he expected. The team culture feels less like a typical workplace and more like a family working toward a shared mission. That mission, in Donnieβs words, is simple but important: take care of customers and ensure their homes are safe.
Today, as Electrical Trade Manager, Donnie continues to apply the lessons learned over more than 40 years in the trade. He focuses on guiding electricians, maintaining high standards of workmanship, and ensuring that every homeowner receives honest, dependable service. His leadership reflects a lifetime spent mastering his craft and a commitment to protecting the safety and comfort of the community he has proudly called home for most of his life.
