2 Air Conditioner Leaks That Can Cost You Big Time
Having a defective air conditioner can be bad for you. First of all, it will compromise the air around your home. If that is not bad enough, it can also cost you money.
We all work hard for our money and we want to make sure that none of it goes to waste. You want to make sure that you are not paying for something that you can avoid in the first place. This is why it is important that you remain updated on what happens inside your home. Just like these two leaks that may be compromising the performance of your air conditioner unit.
Duct Leaks
It is hard to identify if you are having leaks in the duct system of your HVAC system. After all, it is located within the walls, ceilings, and even the floor. It is out of sight because it is not aesthetically appealing. But then again, it makes it hard for you to determine if you have leaks in your duct system. But this is the thing that makes it possible for you to have cool air in your whole home. That means you have to make sure to check on it every now and then. Usually, when a part of your home is suddenly hotter than the usual, that is a sign that there is a leak somewhere. The leak could be in one of the connections. Unless this is fixed, some parts of your home will not be as cool as it should be. Not only that, it could lead to dirt and dust polluting your home and tainting the quality of air.
Attic Leaks
Another leak that you need to be on the lookout for is in the attic. You do not usually visit this place in your house – and that is a mistake. You need to come up every once and awhile to see if there is a light coming from the floor. That means the cool or warm air in the main part of the house may be seeping into the attic. Since you do not really need to regulate the temperature in this part of the house, you are probably just wasting money. The air conditioner is working harder than it has to. Make sure you check this every now and then.
These two leaks are quite common in HVAC systems. There are a couple of ways that these can cost you money.
Higher utility bills. If the HVAC unit is working harder than it has to, that will push your utility bill up. For instance, if you are unknowingly heating to cooling the attic even if nobody comes up, that is a waste of energy. That unnecessary consumption will be reflected on your bill.
Compromise the lifespan of the HVAC unit. If the leak in your duct system is not addressed, that can compromise certain functions in your home. When the air conditioner is working hard all the time, the lifespan will most likely go down. You might find yourself spending on a new unit earlier than expected.
Lead to respiratory illnesses. A leaking duct system will cause dust and other irritants into the air that circulates your home. That can trigger respiratory ailments. If this happens, a trip to the doctor or the cost of medicines will be another dent in your pocket.
As you can see, leaks in your air conditioner can affect your life in more ways than you know. Make sure you avoid this to spare yourself the unnecessary expense.
