IS IT TIME TO REPLACE YOUR AIR CONDITIONER?

With the hottest time of the year still ahead of us, you
don’t want to be caught without AC.

Our team at Veteran Air of Sarasota-Bradenton
knows how pricy a new HVAC system can be. We also know, however, how hot a
house can get when your unit isn’t working the way it should be. While many
people rely on repairs and maintenance, when is it time to say enough is
enough?

Knowing when to buy a new air conditioner can be difficult,
but we’re here to help. There are three questions we often ask our customers if
they’re undecided about whether to buy a new AC.

1.
How Old is
Your Current Air Conditioner?

As with most things, age can have ill-effects on HVAC
systems. If your air conditioner is more than ten years old, it might be time
for a replacement.

When an air conditioner starts to get old, it’s no longer
able to work as efficiently as it did in the past. Customers often complain of
the unit not cooling off the way it should, or their house is always feeling
hot. This problem is commonly a sign of age.

While many air conditioners can last up to fifteen years, it
might not be worth expensive repairs to keep them going.

2.
Does Your
Air Conditioner Use R 22 Freon?

In the past, most air conditioning units ran off a
refrigerant called Freon. In recent years, however, the federal
government changed regulations to phase out this substance to
conserve energy nationwide. Air conditioners manufactured after January 1st,
2010 now use a refrigerant called R410A.

If your current unit always needs new Freon, you may want to
consider making a change.

3.
Is Your
Air Conditioner Frequently Breaking Down?

While many people complain about the high costs to replace
their air conditioner, they often forget how expensive repairs can be.

If you’re continually scheduling service appointments, it’s
probably time to buy a new unit. Consistent breakdowns are usually a sign your HVAC
system is on its way out anyway. Why put more money into an older AC when
you’re probably going to need a new one soon anyway?

Still Not Sure if You Need a New AC Unit?

If you’ve answered these three questions and still aren’t
sure what to do – let us help. We understand that buying a new air conditioner
is a big decision and we want to make sure you’re making the right one.
